RESCENE’s Breakthrough Is Bigger Than Music: 600,000 CU Breads Sold

RESCENE topped Circle Chart's August artist-share analysis, then sold 600,000 collaborative CU breads. Here's what the data reveals.

RESCENE’s 2026 breakthrough is showing up in two places: Korea’s music charts and its convenience-store receipts.

Some K-pop breakthroughs are easiest to spot on streaming charts. Others appear in the queue outside a convenience store. For five-member girl group RESCENE, both signals have arrived together. The group’s music gained renewed attention during the summer, while its collaboration with CU turned bakery products into collectible fan merchandise.

What Circle Chart says about RESCENE’s music

In its official August 2026 review, Circle Chart reported that RESCENE placed eight songs within the top 400 of its digital consumption analysis, giving the group a combined 5.0% artist share, the highest in that month’s calculation.

Its 2024 track LOVE ATTACK led the August digital chart, an example of a song finding a new audience long after its initial release. Circle Chart also noted that RESCENE placed three tracks in the month’s top ten. These figures describe the specific chart methodology and month; they are not a claim that RESCENE held 5% of all music listening in Korea.

Then CU launched five member-inspired breads

Convenience-store chain CU selected RESCENE as a brand model and launched five BAKE405 bakery collaborations beginning September 17. Each product reflects a member’s preferred flavour: Woni’s corn cream bread, Minami’s melon bread, May’s cinnamon roll, Zena’s strawberry sandwich and Liv’s chocolate hotteok.

Every package includes one randomly selected transparent photocard from a collection of 27 designs. That detail matters. A fan buying the bread may also be hoping to collect a favourite member’s card.

According to BGF Retail, the first corn cream bread achieved a 99% sell-through rate within 24 hours. About 100,000 collaboration breads sold in the first four days, while CU’s overall bread sales rose 20% year on year during the same period.

600,000 breads, and an unexpected customer profile

By October 1, cumulative sales of the five RESCENE bread products had reached approximately 600,000 units, according to retailer data reported by Yonhap.

The purchasing breakdown was particularly interesting: 69.1% of buyers were men, and men in their thirties represented the largest age-and-gender group at 22.7% of all purchasers. Men in their forties accounted for 18.6%, followed by men in their twenties at 15.8%.

These are purchasing demographics for the CU bread promotion, not a comprehensive profile of RESCENE’s entire fanbase. Still, the figures challenge the assumption that collectible K-pop promotions are bought mainly by teenage shoppers.

Korean media also reported that certain photocards appeared on resale platforms at prices several times the bread’s original retail price. Those listings don’t prove that every card actually sold for those amounts, but they show the collecting incentive.

What visitors to Korea should know

The collaboration is a distinctly Korean example of how music, fandom and everyday retail overlap. Look for 리센느 and CU BAKE405 in stores. Availability varies, and the most popular products may sell out.

If you’re buying for the photocard, remember that the design is random. Check the package and expiry date, and avoid buying more perishable food than you can consume.

The ThisKovery Take

RESCENE’s story is interesting because the evidence comes from two separate markets. Circle Chart shows meaningful music consumption; CU’s sales show fans and curious shoppers engaging with the group in daily life. A hit song can bring attention, but a bread-and-photocard collaboration shows how that attention travels beyond the playlist.
