A new K-pop girl group has reached the top of one of Korea’s biggest music charts less than two days after releasing its first single.
A2O LITE’s debut track, “NEON,” reached No. 1 on Melon’s TOP100 at 11 p.m. Korean time on October 14, 2026, just 29 hours after release.
It’s a striking opening for a rookie group, especially one connected to a familiar name in K-pop history: Lee Soo-man. But the chart milestone is only the beginning of the story.
1. Who is A2O LITE?
A2O LITE is a nine-member multinational girl group introduced by A2O Entertainment.
The group debuted with “NEON” on October 13, 2026, following a joint showcase at KINTEX in Goyang on October 12. The launch also introduced A2O SOUL, a separate 15-member boy group whose pre-release single “SUPERSTAR” arrived on the same day.
Behind the project is Lee Soo-man, the founder of SM Entertainment, whose earlier work helped shape the careers and creative identities of numerous influential K-pop acts.
A2O LITE represents a new chapter in his production career after leaving SM Entertainment in 2023.

2. Why the 29-hour record matters
According to Korean chart reporting, “NEON” is the fastest debut song to reach No. 1 on Melon’s TOP100 since the platform revised the chart in August 2021.
For comparison, ALLDAY PROJECT’s “FAMOUS” reached the top after approximately 77 hours in 2025, while NewJeans’ “Attention” took eight days in 2022.
“NEON” entered the TOP100 at No. 77 on its release day before climbing to No. 10 the following morning.
Its rapid rise illustrates the immediate attention surrounding A2O LITE’s debut. However, reaching No. 1 quickly doesn’t necessarily mean a song will remain popular. Korean reporting noted that “NEON” had already moved down the chart within hours of its peak.
The more important question is whether listeners continue returning to the track.
3. A familiar K-pop sound in a new generation
A2O Entertainment describes the group’s musical direction as Zalpha Pop, referring to a younger generation of listeners.
“NEON” combines energetic production, layered vocals and choreography-driven performance. Producer Yoo Young-jin, a longtime collaborator in Lee Soo-man’s musical projects, participated in the production.
For listeners familiar with earlier SM Entertainment releases, the song may evoke elements of the company’s performance-focused style.
That creates an interesting contrast with the shorter, hook-driven songs that have become common in contemporary K-pop.
Rather than abandoning established K-pop production traditions, A2O LITE appears to be reintroducing some of them to a new audience.

4. Where to watch and what happens next
The official “NEON” music video is available through A2O’s YouTube channels. The group also made its first M Countdown music-show appearance on October 15.
For international listeners, those two performances provide an accessible introduction to the group’s music and stage identity.
The next indicators to watch will be sustained chart performance, audience engagement, future releases and how the group’s international lineup develops its fanbase.
A fast debut creates attention. Building a lasting musical identity requires considerably more.
The ThisKovery Take
A2O LITE’s debut is interesting for two reasons: the speed of its chart success and the return of one of K-pop’s most influential producers.
“NEON” has already demonstrated strong initial curiosity. Whether that curiosity becomes long-term popularity will make this one of Korea’s more interesting new-group stories to follow.
